1. The Virgin Mary is painted in the icon, sitting on the right-hand side of our Lord. ( The Queen is seated at the right-hand side of the king).
2. The Virgin Mary is the mother of God ( The Theotokos). This is why the icon is often drawn with Virgin Mary holding our Lord Jesus.
3. The Virgin Mary is often drawn with a golden halo around her head but this halo around her head is different from that of our Lord Jesus in two aspects:
   • The halo of the Virgin Mary is over her head but the halo of the Lord Jesus is over his head and up to his shoulders.
   • The halo of the Lord Jesus has to have the sign of The trinity painted on it.
4. The icon of the Virgin Mary should have 3 big stars, one on her head and 2 on her shoulders to demonstrate the continuous Virginity of the Mother of God before, during & after the birth of Jesus.
5. In the icon, the Virgin Mary is surrounded by the cherubim because according to the Bible, the power of the highest overshadows her.
6. The cherubim are drawn carrying the cross and the instruments used for the crucifixion, this is to remind us that that the main aim of the Lord is our salvation.
7. The clothes of the Virgin Mary are often coloured in blue with lots of stars to remind us that she is the second heaven.
8. Her clothes have also had a gold colour on them as a symbol of her many virtues.
9. under the blue clothes, there is also a red colour gown as a symbol of the pain that the Virgin Mary endured at the time of the crucifixion. ( A sword will go through your own soul) Luke 2:35.
10. Under the red gown there is white colour painted gown, this is again a symbol of her purity.
11. Her hand points towards Christ to draw our attention to him as our true bridegroom.
12. Her head is humbly bent so that her ears are close to the side of the mouth of our Lord.
13. Only one of her ears appears in the painted icon to show us that she hears our prayers and the second ear is hidden to show us that she listens to the Lord.
14. Her eyes are drawn showing us that she is always in a state of contemplation.

كيف نقرأ أيقونة الست العذراء
================
١- يجب أن تكون العذراء عن يمين السيد المسيح .. ( جلست الملكه عن يمين الملك )
٢- العذراء والدة الإله ( ثيؤطوكوس ) .. لذلك ترسم و هى تحمل السيد المسيح.
٣- العذراء على رأسها هالة ذهبية .. و لكنها تختلف عن هالة السيد المسيح فى شيئين :-
👼أولا : هالة العذراء : علي رأسها فقط ، وأما هالة السيد المسيح فإلى كتفيه ..
👼ثانيا : هالة السيد المسيح : يجب أن تكون بها علامة الثالوث ..
٤- يجب أن ترسم ثلاث نجمات كبيرة .. واحدة على رأسها و أثنتين على كتفيها .. وذلك رمز لدوام بتوليتها ( قبل ، أثناء ، بعد الولادة ) ..
٥- حواليها الكاروبيم لأن قوة العلى تظللها ..
٦- الكاروبيم يحملون الصليب و أدوات الصلب .. للتذكير بأن هذا الطفل عمله الأساسي هو الفداء ..
٧- ثيابها زرقاء و بها نجوم كثيرة لأنها السماء الثانية ..
٨- علي ثيابها ذهب أشاره لفضائلها ..
٩- تحت الثوب الأزرق ثوب أحمر رمز للألم التي ستقاصيه .. ( و أنت أيضا يجوز فى نفسك سيف ) ..
١٠- يجب أن يرسم ثوب أبيض تحت الأحمر رمز لنقائها ..
١١- يديها تشير إلى السيد المسيح لتوجيه نظرنا إليه بأنه هو عريسنا الحقيقي ..
١٢- رأسها تميل فى أتضاع لتكون أذنيها بجانب فم السيد المسيح ..
١٣- أحدى أذنيها ظاهره لتسمعنا و الأخرى مختفيه لتسمع السيد المسيح ..
١٤- عيناها لا تنظر لأحد و لكنها فى حالة تأمل دائم ..
