Feast of the Apostles

Today, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Apostles, and we also celebrate the Feast of the Martyrdom of Saints Peter and Paul, the Apostles who were martyred during the reign of Emperor Nero in the year 67 AD.

Our forefathers the Apostles were chosen by the LORD JESUS himself as HE said “John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you”, most of them were very simple people and the Holy Bible says “1Co 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.”

After HE chose them, they spent a long period of discipleship with LORD JESUS, they were disciples at the hands of LORD JESUS himself and spent more than 3 years in discipleship and were with LORD JESUS full collateral throughout the week. And after the 3 years, HE commanded them not to leave Jerusalem until they wore a power from the highest, and this power the HOLY SPIRIT, HE said to them (Act 1:8) “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth

When the HOLY SPIRIT came on them on the Fiftieth day they started their service, and this was what characterised the service of the Apostles – the work of the HOLY SPIRIT. And when they chose deacons, the basic condition for choosing was that they are filled with the HOLY SPIRIT and wisdom – even the deacon – not only the Apostles – filled with the HOLY SPIRIT and wisdom. In this way, the church succeeded because it was filled with the HOLY SPIRIT. The HOLY SPIRIT was the one who did the work, and the work of the Apostles was nothing but communion with the HOLY SPIRIT. It was the HOLY SPIRIT who spoke in them, as the LORD JESUS said (Mat 10:20) “For it is not ye that speaks, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.” And the HOLY SPIRIT accompanied them in all their services. After the number was 3000 on the day of the Pentecost, they became 5,000, then masses of men and women, then groups of priests, became followers of the faith, then whole cities, provinces and countries following the LORD JEUS CHRIST, and in less than 30 years Christianity overwhelmed Europe, Asia and Africa, as the Holy Bible has said (Rom 10:18) “Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.”

The Apostle Fathers used every minute of their lives to spread the Kingdom, and they delivered to us what they have received from the LORD JESUS, so their teachings were the teachings of the LORD JESUS himself. Saint Paul tells us (1Co 11:23) “For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you”. The LORD spent with them 40 days after the Resurrection telling them about the matters concerning the Kingdom of GOD. HE gave them all theologies, all rituals, and all the information concerning the Church. Before HIS accession to the Heavens HE said to them (Mat 28:19 – 20) “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” this means to teach them not your teaching or ideas but “I have commanded you.” What they took from the LORD JESUS CHRIST they taught us was pure teaching and thus we call it the Apostolic Delivery. After they handed over the church to faithful hands, they moved to the LORD. Our forefathers the Apostles all died martyrs except Saint John the Beloved, who was tormented by many torments, and he is considered one of the confessors who tormented the slaughter of martyrs without dying as martyrs, and most of the bishops in the Apostolic era died as martyrs.

The LORD GOD honored the forefathers the Apostles greatly as HE said to them “John 12:26 If any man serves me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serves me, him will my Father honour.” So all the honoring we give to our fathers the Apostles is honoring to the LORD GOD himself. The LORD GOD said to the Apostles “John 14:2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” They are with the LORD GOD now, HE also said to them (Mat 19:28) “Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

The Church as she honours them is part of honouring the LORD GOD.
The blessing of our Fathers the Apostle is with us, Amen. Good News
